“…God’s Law (Word) establishes the basis of truth in every area of life. This means that Christians who are passively or even vocally content to let the humanists run the world are acting immorally, for they are implicitly accepting the satanic lie that something other than God’s Law (Word) is the standard in history. We reply that God’s Law is the only standard, now and in eternity.” -Gary North

Uncomfortable being a Christian?
Written by Wayne Harris

What is your response when your Father tells you what needs to be done? Do you reply, “Yes, Lord,” and then not do it? Do you reply, “No!” and then do it? Perhaps you are a child who says, “Yes, Lord” and does it. Our Father in heaven has given us plenty of guidance. The question is, “What are we doing with it?”
Are you still waiting for a sign from heaven? Look toward the vineyard. While you are waiting for a sign, the grapes on the vine are rotting. Will you work today? Can your Father’s desire be any clearer?
“I might as well take it easy,” someone says. “We are being massacred. Many in the media are murdering Christianity. Comedians mock God. Lewis Black called the God of the Old Testament a “p_ _ _ k” recently and thousands laughed. They make chocolate Jesus and people think it is great. We cannot win. Why try?”
Do you follow Jesus Christ because you love Him? Or, do you follow Jesus only when it is popular to do so? Do you live for God because living for God is cool? Or, do you abandon living for God when others mock Him?
It is uncomfortable to be a Christian in secular society. As America rapidly races to become like Rome, being a Christian is not the “in thing”. In fact, we are under intense attack in many circles.
Just before Rome fell, brutality became entertainment. People would sit in the stadium and cheer to the morbid gladiator battles. Being a Christian in this bloodthirsty ruthless time could be hazardous to one’s health. Christians were often despised as low-class nothings. People would shout approval when lions were loosed upon the followers of Christ. Watching the ripping apart of disciples’ bodies was a real ticket seller.
The thing persecutors fail to realize is that God always has the final say. Since they do not fear Him, they say and do whatever they wish. Getting away with their wicked behavior for awhile encourages others to join the pack. Just as they mocked Jesus on the cross of crucifixion, they mock us and ask, “Where is your God?”
My God still runs the universe. Where is the great empire of Rome? Churches are in operation around the globe. Where is Caesar?
Extremist religions have more rights than Christians in some parts of our nation. They hope to shut down all of Christianity. Their efforts may prevail at times, or for a season, but God will have the final say.
God does not need to United States military to win His battles. He does not need any arm of flesh. The One who parts and calms seas, raises the dead, raises up dry bones and commands an army of angels with incredible might can do it all by Himself.
As we watch our society rip apart at the seams, let us pray our way into the mighty fortress of God. As extremists of all sorts lift their unholy heads, let us surrender ourselves to the Lord Jesus Christ. While they mock and ridicule God, let all believers in Christ Jesus revere and fear the Lord with a holy fear.
I started this week’s column asking, “What is your response when your Father tells you what needs to be done?” Well, what is it? Will you obey the Lord no matter what?
The grapes are ripe in the vineyard. The fields are ready for the harvest. Millions may stand ready to oppose those who are faithful to our Father. On the other hand, there are others that are ready to receive the gospel of Jesus Christ. They await Christian harvesters.
They stand in the midst of those that hate Christ. We must go out as sheep among lions to gather in the harvest of lost souls. Our dependency for protection is on the Good Shepherd, Jesus.
Obedience to Jesus resulted in martyrdom for believers like Paul and Peter. They dedicated themselves to working the fields. They did not let pagans, sorcerers, witches and haters of Christ stop them. Neither should we.
Work the fields fearlessly. While it is light, work!
